The Complaints Committee for Ethnic Equal Treatment
The Complaints Committee for Ethnic Equal Treatment was closed 31 December 2008. Instead a new complaints body was etablished - The Board of Equal Treatment. For more information regarding the Board see http://www.ligebehandlingsnævnet.dk/
The Complaints Committee’s task is to handle individual complaints of differential treatment on the basis of race or ethnic origin. The Complaints Committee can also handle complaints of citizens who have been subjected to adverse treatment as a result of having filed a complaint of differential treatment on the basis of race or ethnic origin.
After receiving a complaint, the Complaints Committee can initiate independent investigations of differential treatment, publish reports and make recommendations.
Filing complaints to the Complaints Committee is free of charge. The purpose of the Complaints Committee for Ethnic Equal Treatment is to provide easy access for individuals to complain about unfair treatment on grounds of race or ethnic origin.
Anyone can file a complaint with the Complaints Committee.
You can file a complaint if you have been rejected for a job solely with the explanation that you are of non-Danish origin. You can also complain if you have difficulty getting an apartment on equal terms because of a foreign sounding name, or if you are rejected entry to a night club because of the colour of your skin.
The Complaints Committee can take up cases of differential treatment both within and outside the labour market. However, the Committee can only handle labour market complaints from union members if the member is not receiving any help from the union in the case. If you are not a member of a union, you can file your complaint directly with the Complaints Committee.
